Locally born artist, Brian Hoskin, grew up in the busy fishing port of Looe. His father, uncles and grandfather were all local boatmen and Brian spent most of his early years working on his father’s boats, swimming and fishing.
On leaving school he attended Falmouth and Exeter colleges of Art and left in 1984 with a degree in graphic design to find work as an illustrator in London.
Brian gradually developed an individual style incorporating unusual viewpoints and perspective and built up a client list that included the BBC, Hallmark, and Ladybird books. After a few years of city life he decided to continue his career back in Cornwall and has been living in South East of the county ever since, now based in the picturesque village of St. Germans.
In the last few years Brian has been producing his own artwork and prints as well as working as an illustrator. He recently completed a town map for Liskeard which can be seen at various display points around the town and a set of 6 illustrated books for the Cornish Language partnership that were distributed to all year 3 school children in Cornwall.
Brian works in a number of styles and enjoys constantly experimenting with new techniques and media including photography and digital art.
When not illustrating or painting Brian enjoys surfing, trying to get things to grow on the family’s allotment and messing about on the river.
We always have a good selection of Brian's work in the Panache Gallery and can arrange commissions for bespoke paintings.
